American Apple Pie
American Apple Pie is a performance piece where the audience is served pie on ceramic plates with text that read: “Abolish ICE”, “No Mas Deportaciones” “Todos Son Bienvenido”. The plates and pie dishes are handmade by the artist and are used to welcome everyone to the table and be part of the conversation surrounding the current political state in the US.
Apple pie has been described as an 'all American dish', yet none of the ingredients originate from North America. American is a country founded on the stolen land of the Indigenous peoples of North America. It is also comprised of immigrants who regardless of their legal or migratory status are an integral part of American society. This performance is a protest, an act of resistance in time where they want us to be silenced. Everyone is welcome to this table.
